This guitar chord finder helps you to construct your own guitar chords. If you're not familiar with guitar chords theory you should read the guitar music theory tutorial first on this web site, if not you will not be able to interpret the results of the guitar chord finder.
To start working with the guitar chord finder you select the chord root and the chord type. All notes of the selected chord will display on the guitar neck so you can easily pick the right notes for your chord without having to think too much.
When picking notes for your chord remember that not every chord tone is equally important:
- 3 and 7 are the most important notes of a chord. They make a chord major, minor or dominant.
- The 1 is the least important note. It's the bass player's job the play the 1.
- The 5 is the second least important note.
- Tensions add interest and color. It's a good thing to replace the 1 and 5 by tensions.
In the 'Details' part of the guitar chord finder you see the notes and chord formula for your chosen chord. The blue dots on the guitar neck represent the root, the black dots the other chord tones.
The guitar chord finder allows you to construct your own chords by clicking on the guitar neck. To input open strings, click on the 'x' on top of the strings. The details window will display the chord type, formula and notes.
